The record eclipses the previous mark set earlier this year by Chevrolet with a 40 by 80-foot flag at Texas Motor Speedway on September 28th.
With its 6.7-liter Power Stroke® turbo diesel V8 producing a best-in-class 925 lb.-ft. of torque and 440 horsepower, the F-450 displayed an exceptional level of towing power that Ford truck owners have come to expect from the top-selling truck series in America.

Ford is no stranger to patriotic displays at Ford Championship weekend, utilizing the F-Series line of trucks to fly the U.S. flag as part of pre-race activities since 2003. However, Saturday’s practice session for Sunday was special, as the United States flag flown by the F-450 Super Duty for the record-setting drive measured 45′ by 92′ feet.
To set the record, the truck had to travel beyond the 100 meters (328 feet) previous record mark, without the flag touching the ground. The F-450 more than exceeded that requirement, officially covering a verified distance of 109 meters (360 feet) and also completing four full laps around the Homestead-Miami Speedway 1.5-mile oval, site of NASCAR’s championship event, Ford Championship Weekend.
To accommodate the record setting flag, 45-foot riggings from eyelet to eyelet were constructed enabling the F-450 a driving roll-out of the massive flag. A team of 20 launched and retrieved the flag, ensuring it did not touch the ground.
The F-450 put on an encore performance the following Sunday afternoon as part of the pre-race festivities prior to the Ford EcoBoost 400 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series championship race live on NBC.

Ford Pre-Collision Assist with Pedestrian Detection uses combined radar and camera technology to scan the roadway ahead for collision risks. If one is detected, the initial response from the vehicle is to provide a visual and audible warning to the driver and temporarily mute the audio system. If the driver does not react to the warning, the technology can automatically apply up to the vehicle’s full braking force to help reduce the severity of, or even eliminate, a frontal collision.
DEARBORN, Mich., Oct. 24, 2016 – Collisions can be caused not just by distracted driving, but increasingly, distracted walking. Every eight minutes, a pedestrian is injured in a motor vehicle crash, according to a recent report from National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. This rise is linked to a global influx of “petextrians” – people walking while texting.
Ford’s new Pre-Collision Assist with Pedestrian Detection can predict the movement of pedestrians to help reduce the severity of and, in some cases, eliminate frontal collisions altogether. Debuting in North America as an available technology for the 2017 Ford Fusion, the system has been developed to help recognize pedestrians using more than 240 terabytes of test data – equal to 20.4 trillion books, or 600 Libraries of Congress with 34 million books each.
“Since we are trying to avoid a collision that hasn’t happened yet, prediction of the future is an inherent part of the puzzle,” says Scott Lindstrom, Ford driver assist technologies manager. “Having a huge cache of data – based on real-world driving conditions – helps our system be smart enough to determine what may happen in a second that has not yet even occurred.”
Global ‘petextrian’ problem
Cities around the world are tackling the increasing problem of “petextrians” and distracted walking. A theme park in Chongqing, China, painted smartphone lanes on 30 meters of sidewalk in an effort to combat the problem. And officials in Seoul plan to expand similar signage across South Korea next year. Pedestrians crossing the tram tracks in Augsburg, Germany, are now warned by a strip of blinking red LED lights mounted on the ground. The tiny town of Rexburg, Idaho, took a different approach, passing a law in 2011 against texting while crossing the street and slapping a $50 fine on anyone who does.
Predicting human movement
Aaron Mills, Ford safety engineer, says the more test data was gathered and then used to develop the vehicle’s algorithm to help it recognize a wide variety of human sizes and shapes. “We were startled to see how oblivious people could be of a 4,000-pound car coming toward them,” he says. “It was a real eye-opener to how distracted people are today.”
Working in daylight and in clear weather conditions – at speeds up to 50 mph – Ford’s system processes information collected from a windshield-mounted camera, which has been taught to classify different vehicle and pedestrian scenarios, along with radar located near the bumper to pick up shape reflections. The technology then combines both data streams using a unique Ford algorithm that calculates the risk of a collision. While the system may be especially helpful in unexpected situations, it does not replace the driver.
Ford is testing advanced features for future vehicles that could allow the system to operate at night, in low and harsh lighting conditions, and when vehicles and cyclists move in different directions.
Testing the technology
Using 12 vehicles, Ford conducted 500,000-plus miles of development testing in Europe, China and the United States, racking up more than one year – 473 days – of data logging. In just 15 weeks in North America alone, the technology recorded more than 3 million scans of roadside objects, vehicles and pedestrians across roughly 70 percent non-highway and 30 percent highway miles.
Other driver-assist technologies available for Fusion include lane-keeping assist, Blind Spot Information System with cross-traffic alert, adaptive cruise control, and hands-free parallel and perpendicular parking.

Block’s new video is incredible and amazingly-complicated, but like most humans, after watching eight previous similar editions, I wasn’t wowed by any of his skilled stunts. At least until I saw a 2017 Ford F-150 Raptor hanging from a freaking helicopter!
Although there’s been similar stunts in previous versions where Block paints rubber circles around moving objects, this one seemed particularly difficult, as the Raptor is dangling in front of him with zero-to-little control. A wind gust could easily push the truck into Block and cause trouble.

Ford Performance to Extend Production of All-New Ford GT Supercar an Additional Two Years

PEBBLE BEACH, Calif., – Applicants and fans of the Ford GT can rejoice as Ford Performance is adding two more years of production for the all-new carbon fiber supercar. The announcement comes on the heels of letters sent to potential customers notifying them of their application status to purchase the car.
The additional production supports the recent decision by Ford Performance to race Ford GT in both IMSA and World Endurance Championship (WEC) series events for four years.
“While we can’t build enough Ford GTs for everyone who has applied, we are going to produce additional vehicles in an effort to satisfy more of our most loyal Ford ambassadors,” says Dave Pericak, global director, Ford Performance. “We want to keep Ford GT exclusive, but at the same time we know how vital this customer is to our brand.”
Year three of production will support applicants who were placed on the wait list; previously deferred applicants and those who missed the initial application window will be served by production year four. The application process for fourth-year production will reopen in early 2018. Those who already applied to own the car will only need to update their request.
“Ford GT has racing in its blood,” says Raj Nair, Ford executive vice president, product development, and chief technical officer. “The road car and race car will live on, side-by-side, for the next four years – providing ample opportunity to test and prove innovative new technologies both on and off the track.”

“Yes, we’re beating a dead horse here with all of our Bronco talk, but a new set of renderings of what the new SUV from Ford surfaced today. While this is just an artist conception, it does share a bit of Ford’s current design language with classic Bronco looks.
Our friends at BoldRide came up with these renderings, which depict the new Bronco as a traditional two-door vehicle. The front end resembles the new Ford Explorer in a lot of ways, and considering the Bronco would be in the same family of utility vehicles, it stands to reason they’ll share the similar face, rather than the face of the F-150.
Around back the SUV carries the F-150’s LED rear taillights, and a big BRONCO stamp across the back hatch.
Considering it’s just an artist rendering, we don’t expect the final version to look like this, but this rendering does incorporate some of Ford’s design language in a way that could make sense.”
